How To Start Your Own Arcade

Well, lets take a trip back in history.

If you were lucky enough to be in your pre-teens during the peak of arcades, like I did, then arcades probably hold a very fond place in your heart. Certainly it’s nostalgic, but it runs a lot deeper than that. It is without a doubt, a piece of your childhood as well as pop culture.

If you’re thinking about building your own arcade collection, I must offer this disclaimer: You’re going to be addicted the moment after you plug in your first game. They’ll be no going back.

Sure, you could be like everybody else and buy an Xbox 360, PS3, Nintendo Wii, or whatever happens to be the best video game console out there. But guess what? Those console, while having all technology behind them, still won’t be able to compete with arcade classics like Burgertime, Street Fighter, Double Dragon, etc…Sure, the visuals & presentation will be greater on the consoles. But what’s the single most relevant aspect to playing video games? Fun! Capital F-U-N. All that other stuff is meaningless.

If there is one component that is missing from console games is that all encompassing experience that arcades brought to the table. Just think back to those old arcades. The machines entirely surrounded you. It was kind of like a capsule. All the bright lights and loud sounds that you were picking up was from this cocoon-like cabinet.

The statement that arises always when making the comparison is “But a console takes a few inches of space, you need a lot of room for arcade games”. This is 100% true. There is no getting around it.. Arcade games take up a lot of space. But for the real video game historian, some real estate in exchange for an engrossing hobby seems like a fair trade off. As log as what you’re doing is something you enjoy, there is no downside.

If you’re just starting out, here are some of the things that you should know about collecting arcade games before you just jump right in:

• 1) Space. I cannot stress this enough but you do in fact need space in your house to get into collecting arcade machines. First just start by finding enough space for a couple of machines then you’ll notice, your house tends to become more open. It’s funny how that works.

• 2) Be handy. Look at it like this: if you’re buying a 20 year old machine, you might get the random glitch. It comes with the hobby. Think if you were buying a 20 year old car. Chances are you’re going to have to get under the hood once in a blue moon.

This is especially true if you’re buying a machine that’s been in an arcade for its entire life. Just think of all those bratty kids that treated the joystick like it was their own personal pull-up bar. The game is going to be tired and is going to need some love and attention.

The good news is that there are literally hundreds of places you could go online for a missing part or manual for the machine that needs a little fix.

If you are not the handiest person in the world, its ok. I am positive you could find someone within your city limits that can fix an arcade game. Just think about every time you walk into a 7-11, laundromat, pool hall, etc, you always see at least one arcade game, don’t you? Well, chances are the owners of those games have people they use to work on any problems.

• 3) Where/Who do I buy the machines from? Thank goodness for the internet. There are many sites that sell arcade machines. Where I recommend purchasing arcade games is eBay. It may seem very obvious, and for good reason. eBay is the best place to purchase arcade games for several reasons:

• Selection – When you go to most other websites, you are only going to see what that particular seller (chances are he sells on eBay too), and only that seller, has available for sale. Meanwhile, going to eBay you will see hundreds, if not thousands of listings on arcade machines for sale.

• Price – If you’re just starting your collection, you came in at a very good time. Arcade machines are selling for a lot less than they used to be and eBay is where you will get the most competitive pricing. It makes sense. The more competition there is, the better the prices are going to be. A tried and true example of the free market?

• Feedback – This has to be the most important reason for buying machines through eBay. You can actually see what kind of reputation a seller has. If you went to another businesses’ website do you honestly think they’re going to report any problems they’ve had with past buyers? Of course they won’t.

But in eBay you get to see every seller’s feedback score. If you’re looking at a particular game that interests you, then all you have to do is look at the seller’s feedback and if it seems like he’s had some problems in the past with buyers, then you know its time to move on to the next one. Because chances are, someone else in eBay is selling the very same machine and also has a much better reputation with buyers.

How To Play Splits

If playing poker is your cup of tea, you already know that gathering with a group of friends for Dealer’s Choice provides hours upon hours of exciting entertainment. Dealer’s Choice poker offers a plethora of interesting and exciting fast-paced games with nearly endless possibilities. One such game, which happens to be one of my favorites, is called “Splits,” or “Hit the Number.”

Rules and game play for Splits are extremely easy to follow. To begin the game, two random target numbers are chosen, with the object being to obtain a point total as close to or equal to one of the two chosen numbers. More common target number choices for Splits include 7 – 27, 5 1/2 – 21 1/2, or 13 – 33. In each of these examples, there is at least a 15-point difference, and one of the sets even works with half numbers. This is for a couple of reasons. First, Splits is, a split-pot poker game, in which the winnings are almost always divided between at least two players. For example, in 13 – 33, at the end of the game, the gamblers nearest to 13 points and nearest to 33 points split the pot down the middle. Second, all face cards are worth a mere half point, while aces are worth either 1 or 11 points. All numbered cards are worth their face value. Therefore, if playing 5 1/2 – 21 1/2, it is possible to hit half numbers, as well as whole ones.

Splits is dealt out like 5-Card Stud with one major difference. The game is not even close to being over after each player has five cards. A player can choose to draw as many cards as he wants, even if he has already opted not to draw during a previous round. To explain, after antes have been paid, the dealer gives each player two cards in a normal clockwise rotation, one face down and one face up. For the sake of betting after each round, the player with the highest point total showing on the board starts off by either betting checking. After a round of betting, the dealer then (once again in a clockwise rotation) asks everyone if they would like another card. If at anytime your point total matches the amount of points required for that particular Splits game, then do not draw anymore cards, as you are already guaranteed half of the pot. A player can pass on drawing a card at anytime, then come back and draw on a subsequent turn if desired. This is sometimes done by a gambler to increase pot size if he is already locked in for half of the winnings, and increasing his point total, even by 10 points, will not matter.

After each round of drawing a card, a round of betting begins. When no one wants to draw anymore cards, there is a final round of betting, then the hand is over. The two players closest to the two selected Splits numbers with their own total points are the winners. Therefore, if you are playing 13 – 33 and you have 13 points on the nose, you split the winnings with the one closest to 33 points since those are your target numbers. Also, unless there are exceptions, a player can overshoot a number and still be closest to it to win (i.e. 33 1/2 points is still a winner over 32 points if playing 13 – 33). The only times a pot is not divided directly in half is when either one player can total both amounts by using aces (i.e. three aces will give a player both 13 and 33 points, like The Wheel, giving him the entire pot) or if two players are equidistant from a target number (i.e. if one player has 12 points and one has 14 points, they will each take a quarter of the pot, while the player closest to 33 points takes the other half). And since two people usually end up splitting the winnings, pot sizes in Splits can become fairly large, adding even more excitement to an already fun-filled, Dealer’s Choice poker game.

Even if by some odd reason you become bored with Splits, variations can be easily utilized. Some ideas include changing the dealer after each betting round, using number combos that are further apart (like 21 – 51 or 9 1/2 – 44 1/2), just counting red cards and making black cards worth zero points, or not being able to exceed your target number (as in Blackjack or 21). Whatever options you decide to choose will definitely increase the excitement level of the game. In fact, even without any variations applied, I am sure you will find Splits to be very fulfilling, constantly keeping you on the edge of your poker seat.

When You Do Not Think It Could Happen To You

Life is full of good and bad times and couples will go through them at some point in their relationship. No relationship is without conflict and those that are, may miss out on the richness of coming through a tough time together, closer and in a stronger relationship. It is not a matter of if you will strike a relationship bump, but when. So, what do you do? How can you prevent a long-term relationship breakup?

As you care about your relationship’s future, these tips may be able to help you strengthen your connection with your partner and avoid the trauma of a break up. No couple is immune to the ravages of life and couples who thought it would never happen to them have sometimes found themselves bereft and alone. It is not something that can be taken for granted – ever!

Speaking of taking partners for granted, this is the most common complaint in relationships gone wrong. It can be so easy to get busy with life, with work, or with children, and we neglect our partner thinking quite wrongly that they will understand. They well may do, at least for a little while, but prolonged neglect can cause your lover to wonder where they fit in with your priorities. Everyone needs attention and love and feeling unloved, as in not being shown that they are loved, can leave them vulnerable to the attentions of another.

The way to make up for this is to diary in regular “dates” with your spouse. Even after the marriage ceremony is over, the courtship itself should never be over.

If you have children, get a sitter, go out and reconnect as a couple. If finances do not stretch to going out, put the children to bed and have a lovely meal and a “movie” night in. You can make it as romantic as you like with candles spread around the room, scatter petals around and just enjoy being together. Avoid talking about any of life’s issues and just have some fun. Perhaps watch some the funniest movies you both enjoy and have a good laugh workout.

Other times you could simply talk with each other, sharing feelings, dreams, hopes and desires, as if you were dating for the first time. Take this time to listen actively to your partner’s words and their heart.

Sex is a crucial part of a relationship as it helps build intimacy in a couple’s life, and it is this factor that makes a “couple relationship” different from any other relationship we have. However, when you have been together for some time, it can take a toll on the physical side of your relationship. Life happens, and people get tired and complacent, or, they just do not try the same as they did before. It is important to talk with each other about what each person needs when it comes to their sexual relationship and it is not always what we think the other wants. Even guys sometimes only need to snuggle, or express their connection when out somewhere by walking holding hands. The closeness and intimacy felt between the two of you is part of that sexual attraction. For example, the way you look at each other says volumes and can elicit a sense of sexuality without even getting all your gear off!

Being able to trust each other and depend on each other, also goes a long way to building that connection, much deeper than just a romp in the bedroom. At the same time, do not forget to have fun in the bedroom; that is a couple’s first playground. Do not let this part of your relationship fall into a rut. Sex should be a number of things to a couple – a place of connection and intimacy, a way of playing physically with each other and a way to meet each other’s erotic needs. It reaffirms that you desire the other person and that you love them. It makes you feel good about each other and it is physical exploration of your partner. It compliments the mental and emotional exploration as you learn about each other throughout the rest of your lives together.

One idea to try is that each of you can make a list of things you would like your partner to do for you, and then take turns at doing them. Remember, that these things need to nice and loving, otherwise it will not help build your relationship. Men, if your woman desires that you run her a hot bubble bath with candles and an hour to be on her own, fear not, she may feel more sensual when she gets out of the bath, which you could follow with a body massage with a romance scented oil, and who knows…?

By rediscovering the chemistry between you and rekindling the flame of love, which perhaps has been reduced to an ember, you can bring back and build an important part of your relationship.

They say that couples that play together, stay together, and this is true. By sharing their feelings, making time for each other, and loving and respecting each other they can look forward to growing old together within a loving companionable relationship. Even though life is no bed of roses, it is so much easier when you can share it with the one of your dreams.

Make sure that you shore up your relationship, and put into place today a plan to prevent a long-term relationship breakup, and you can look forward to sharing every beautiful sunset together.

The Palace Builder Game Review

The Palace Builder is a building simulation game set in the romantic upper class world of French aristocracy. You will design and manage the construction of the most beautiful structures in the kingdom. Will your work attract the attention of the Queen, or will a secret destroy your chances for fame and fortune?

Young Gabrielle has always been fascinated by architecture and the construction of beautiful buildings and landscapes. Unfortunately, when her father tried to apprentice her to a master architect, the master refused because she was a girl. Not one to give up, Gabrielle’s father devised a plan to dress her up as a boy and managed to get the master architect to accept “Gabriel” as his new apprentice.

Now that Gabrielle is able to learn from a master, she has to quickly learn everything she can, and show just how good an architect she can be. And that’s where you come in; your task is to help her design and build the best palaces as she slowly works her way towards more complicated designs and bigger commissions from the cream of the French aristocracy. And who knows… maybe she will get to design and build a palace for the Queen some day. That is if her cover doesn’t get blown and her deception gets revealed first!

The Palace Builder is a “town” builder similar to the Build-A-Lot series, but with many unique things going for it. In normal town-building games, each map has a grid that you need to build houses on. In The Palace Builder, each plot of land you get is an open area where you can design and build your dream palace any which way you want.

The worker and resource management for The Palace Builder is slightly more complicated as well. There are gardeners who are used to build and maintain gardens, drafters to draw up plans for buildings, builders to construct the buildings, and sculptors to create appealing decorations and ornaments. There are also 4 different types of resources that you need to keep an eye on.

At each level, you have a plot of land to build on, and a set of objectives you need to complete. These objectives include building a set number of certain buildings, and also how much appeal your entire palace plot generates. Appeal is how beautiful the place is and how much the neighbors like it, and is earned when you complete buildings and decorations. Generally the more expensive and long the construction is, the more appeal the structure generates. Achieving enough appeal each level allows Gabrielle to complete a section of her own palace as well.

When you start the game, you only have access to the most basic of structures including a chateau, stables, gardens and fountains. As you progress, you will gain access to a whole variety of structures with which to decorate your plot and increase its appeal. You have to be careful though; many of the structures have multiple stages of construction, each with different resource and worker requirements.

The graphics in The Palace Builder are not fantastic; it feels slightly dated with its 2 dimensional art compared to other contemporary games which boast stunning 3D visuals. However, it does add a few touches that make it enjoyable. While you are planning and constructing your palaces, you will get animations of the French aristocracy enjoying the results of your work. The ladies will be quietly strolling around or having a picnic, while the men will be dueling each other with their swords all around your gardens and statues.

Overall, this game is a step in the right direction for town-building simulation games. In other town-building games, you are either allowed to construct buildings only in specific plots, or need to demolish roads to change the landscape, or are restricted in building placement due to efficiency issues. The freeform design and construction in The Palace Builder is a nice change that will appeal to gamers who like to create aesthetically pleasing works of art!

Virtual Reality Medical Education In Second Life

Increasing numbers of people are using the Internet for the provision of all sorts of health services, from prescribing, through consulting to setting up automated self-treatment programs. But what about using it for education and therapy? After all, in theory, the ultimate form of cognitive behavioral therapy should be ” virtual reality therapy.” By simply wearing your wrap-around sound and vision multimedia headset you can be instantly transported to a cliff edge, soar in a plane thousands of feet above the ground or be surrounded by a gathering of thousands of spiders – depending on your phobia. And the ultimate form of online education should be fully interactive, case based and student driven, all of which I now use in my teaching in Second Life.

The phrase ” virtual reality” was coined by Jaron Lanier in 1989 to describe computer simulations of physical environments. Since the mid-1990s, the video game industry and 3D graphics card manufacturers have driven forward the state of personal computer graphics, advancing it far beyond the needs of most business users. These systems range in capability from simple displays of 3D objects to entire virtual cities. Virtual reality systems are now being routinely implemented on personal computers for a variety of activities. One of the most popular virtual reality programs is Second Life, produced by Linden Lab, Inc. Second Life is a general-purpose virtual world accessible through any Internet-connected personal computer. In order to interact in Second Life, users create “avatars”, or animated characters, to represent themselves. Individuals use these avatars to maneuver through various “worlds”, complete with buildings, geographical features, and other avatars. While the system borrows heavily from video game technology, it is not a game – there are no points, no levels, no missions, and nothing to win. It is simply a platform by which people can create virtual communities, model geological, meteorological, or behavioral phenomena, or rehearse events. I have been working in Second Life for several years now.

Users of Second Life include a variety of education organizations, from Harvard Law School to the American Cancer Society. There are currently areas of the virtual world that provide such disparate services as teaching heart sounds and auscultation technique, providing social support for individuals with Asperger’s Syndrome, and modeling the effects of tsunami on coastal towns. The system has over 10 million account holders from all over the world, most of them with free basic accounts. Approximately 800,000 of those users are active, with over 80,000 of them connected to the system at any time. Virtual reality programs such as Second Life are increasingly being used for educational purposes in a variety of fields, including medical training and disaster preparedness. Linden Lab currently operates the Second Life Education Wiki which functions as a source of information for educators and trainers in a variety of fields who wish to use Second Life for distance learning or large-scale training purposes. A number of government agencies, including the Department of Homeland Security, the Centers for Disease Control, the National Institutes of Health, and the National Science Foundation, have begun using Second Life to hold meetings, conduct training sessions, and explore ways to make access to information more readily available around the world. A recent comprehensive survey intended to gather information on the activities, attitudes, and interests of educators active in Second Life conducted by New Media Consortium reported that the majority used it for educational purposes such as teaching and taking classes as well as for faculty training and development.

I have been using Second Life as a teaching and learning environment for several years now. With colleagues I have created a ” virtual hallucinations” environment, which demonstrates the lived experience of psychosis and allows participants who travel through the environment to experience both visual and auditory hallucinations; visions and voices. We used this environment to teach this experience to our medical and psychology students. With the California Department of Health and other colleagues I have created a virtual bioterrorism crisis clinic to train health workers, and more recently, as part of our Health Informatics Certificate Program, with University of California Davis Extension, we have taught informatics students in a virtual conference center on our own private island; Davis Island. Students find the environment straightforward to learn to navigate, and within a week of our informatics students being introduced to the environment they were able to travel and tour around Second Life with the rest of us with ease.

Second Life and similar multi-user environments offer enormous possibilities in the medical educational world, where such applications are now called “serious games” rather than social or fun software. Students of the future will adapt to them very easily, and it is clear that applications such as Second Life have a great educational future before them. I look forward to continuing to teach classes of medical and graduate students “inworld”.

Texas Holdem Poker Tournament Strategy

Welcome to the fifth in my Texas Holdem Poker Strategy Series, focusing on no limit Texas Holdem poker tournament play and associated strategies. In this article, we’ll examine starting hand decisions.

It may seem obvious, but deciding which starting hands to play, and which ones to skip playing, is one of the most important Texas Holdem poker decisions you’ll make. Deciding which starting hands to play begins by accounting for several factors:

* Starting Hand “groups” (Sklansky made some good suggestions in his classic “Theory of Poker” book by David Sklansky)

* Your table position

* Number of players at the table

* Chip position

Sklansky originally proposed some Texas Holdem poker starting hand groups, which turned out to be very useful as general guidelines. Below you’ll find a “modified” (enhanced) version of the Sklansky starting hands table. I adapted the original Sklansky tables, which were “too tight” and rigid for my liking, into a more playable approach that are used in the Poker Sidekick poker odds calculator. Here’s the key to these starting hands:

Groups 1 to 8: These are essentially the same scale as Sklansky originally proposed, although some hands have been shifted around to improve playability and there is no group 9.

Group 30: These are now “questionable” hands, hands that should be played rarely, but can be reasonably played occasionally in order to mix things up and keep your opponents off balance. Loose players will play these a bit more often, tight players will rarely play them, experienced players will open with them only occasionally and randomly.

The table below is the exact set of starting hands that Poker Sidekick uses when it calculates starting poker hands. If you use Poker Sidekick, it will tell you which group each starting hand is in (if you can’t remember them), along with estimating the “relative strength” of each starting hand. You can just print this article and use it as a starting hand reference.

Group 1: AA, KK, AKs

Group 2: QQ, JJ, AK, AQs, AJs, KQs

Group 3: TT, AQ, ATs, KJs, QJs, JTs

Group 4: 99, 88, AJ, AT, KQ, KTs, QTs, J9s, T9s, 98s

Group 5: 77, 66, A9s, A5s-A2s, K9s, KJ, KT, QJ, QT, Q9s, JT, QJ, T8s, 97s, 87s, 76s, 65s

Group 6: 55, 44, 33, 22, K9, J9, 86s

Group 7: T9, 98, 85s

Group 8: Q9, J8, T8, 87, 76, 65

Group 30: A9s-A6s, A8-A2, K8-K2, K8-K2s, J8s, J7s, T7, 96s, 75s, 74s, 64s, 54s, 53s, 43s, 42s, 32s, 32

All other hands not shown (virtually unplayable).

So, those are the enhanced Sklasky Texas Holdem poker starting hand tables.

The later your position at the table (dealer is latest position, small blind is earliest), the more starting hands you should play. If you’re on the dealer button, with a full table, play groups 1 through 6. If you’re in middle position, reduce play to groups 1 through 3 (tight) and 4 (loose). In early position, reduce play to groups 1 (tight) or 1 through 2 (loose). Of course, in the big blind, you get what you get.

As the number of players drops into the 5 to 7 range, I recommend tightening up overall and playing far fewer, premium hands from the better positions (groups 1 – 2). This is a great time to forget about chasing flush and straight draws, which puts you at risk and wastes chips.

As the number of players drops to 4, it’s time to open up and play far more hands (groups 1 – 5), but carefully. At this stage, you’re close to being in the money in a Texas Holdem poker tournament, so be extra careful. I’ll often just protect my blinds, steal occasionally, and try to let the smaller stacks get blinded or knocked out (putting me into the money). If I’m one of the small stacks, well, then I’m forced to pick the best hand I can get and go all-in and hope to double-up.

When the play is down to 3, it’s time to avoid engaging with big stacks and hang on to see if we can land 2nd place, heads-up. I tend to tighten up a bit here, playing very similar to when there’s just 3 players (avoiding confrontation unless I’m holding a pair or an Ace or a King, if possible).

Once you’re heads-up, well, that’s a topic for a completely different article, but in general, it’s time to become extraordinarily aggressive, raise a lot, and become “pushy”.

In tournaments, it’s always important to keep track of your chips stack size relative to the blinds and everyone else’s stacks. If you’re short on chips, then play far fewer hands (tigher), and when you do get a good hand, extract as many chips as you can with it. If you’re the big stack, well, you should avoid unnecessary confrontation, but use your big stack position to push everyone around and steal blinds occasionally as well – without risking too many chips in the process (the other players will be trying to use you to double-up, so be careful).

Well, that’s a quick overview of an improved set of starting hands and some general rules for adjusting starting hand play based upon game conditions throughout the tournament.

Until next time, best of luck to you at the Texas Holdem poker tables!

Keep Your Brain Healthy With Brain Teaser Games And Fun Puzzles

The human brain is like a muscle and if you exercise it, it remains fit. Otherwise it may degenerate just like a muscle does if it is not used. Therefore, in order to activate the brain, brain teaser games can be fun and at the same time, give the much required activity.

Brain teaser games, puzzles, online games, optical illusions and jigsaws all come under the category of activities that tickle your brain. These activities increase attention spans, find out what can distract prolonged attention, how to increase memory, give more attention to detail, testing the limit of the peripheral vision, visual perception, and deciphering things accurately even though they are less obvious than they appear. Some brain teaser games target the logic of mathematics. Is the figure in the diagram a circle or is it elliptical? Or can you tell which rod is longer? All brain teasers and match puzzles are interactive and scoring is visible immediately. These games use dynamic content to provide continuous learning and entertainment.

Besides these, there are critical thinking games as brain teasers. How do words influence what we see or do not see? What about hieroglyphics or making words through pictures that was used by early Egyptians to depict life around the Pharaohs? This also involves thinking about word and picture associations and finally arriving at the desired outcome…. a single word. Thus brain teaser games can improve memory and attention and boost mental power and performance.

Fun puzzle games are a wonderful way to be rid of boredom and exercise the brain at the same time. They help in increasing concentration and focus, especially if you indulge in them regularly. Su-doku is one such game that can be played everyday besides making the maximum number of four letter words from a given set of seven letters. Jigsaw puzzles are many cardboard bits of a colored picture. Putting each bit in its rightful place will make the picture. This helps in increasing reasoning ability and focus. When it is being played, hours can be spent fruitfully as a child or adult tries to put the puzzle together.

Other fun puzzle games can be in the form of riddles that is thrown at the audience and the sharpest brain will answer quickly. Crossword puzzles and anagrams belong to this category and are mainly played by adults. Spot the difference in a set of two pictures can be played by anyone and here attention to detail is developed.

Therefore, to sharpen your brain and keep it fit, indulge in some brain teaser games or fun puzzles.

Fun Board Games For Kids

There are many fun board games for kids other than Candy Land and Chutes and Ladders. You may not find them in your mainline department or toy stores. You most likely have to go to specialty game stores or look online. That little bit of extra effort though will reward you and your children (or grandchildren) with hours of enjoyment playing some really fun board games.

Looping Louie (also known as Bobbin’ Bumblebee and Barn Buzzin’ Goofy – same games, different themes) is a dexterity board game with lots of action. English editions call him Loopin’ Louie, for short.

A battery-powered tower rotates a boom with a small plastic airplane. When the plane spins around to you home area, you try to flip it out of the way using a level at your home base to protect your chicken chips from being stolen by Louie.

Ch√Ęteau Roquefort is a fun board game that invites players to explore a castle with their mouse tokens. The mice are looking for cheese scattered about the corridors. Players spend action points to move their mice and pieces of the board to reveal or hide the pieces of cheese and trap doors in the floor.

Children will need to think about the effects of their moves before making them. They will also need to plan how to spend their action points wisely so they don’t run out before they accomplish all they wanted to do on a given turn. Many will enjoy the trap door effect when mice fall through the floor. Some may even like this site gag so much that they drop their own mice through a trap just for the giggles.

Animal Upon Animal is another dexterity board game that involves stacking wooden animals of various shapes and sizes (and colors). Think “Jenga” for kids. A steady hand is needed to stack these animals one upon another in a somewhat pyramid-shaped structure. If the animals tumble to the table on your turn, you must take back two of them to your own pile.

A special die is rolled to determine the placement of pieces and who gets to place them. Rules can be adjusted to suit the ages and abilities of the players. For example, instead of keeping only two animals after a crash, you could rule that the tumble-causer must keep up to five.

Gulo Gulo is yet another fun board game that requires dexterity. This one may actually favor the young one who have smaller fingers.

As you advance your Gulo character along the randomly-setup track, you must pick an egg (of the required color) out of the bowl. If removing the egg causes the alarm stick to fall out of the bowl (or if unwanted eggs drop out), your Gulo must go backwards.

Your goal is to reach the end of the track to rescue a baby Gulo found there. Bright colors, cute Gulos, saving the baby, and a very real chance at beating adults make this a fun board game for kids.

The Kids of Carcassonne is similar to the original Carcassonne in that the main mechanics include placing random tiles and setting meeples on top of them. Unlike the original, however, the sides of the tiles always match in this fun board game for kids.

The goal is to place all of your pawns, knowns as meeples, on the appropriate tiles before any of the other players. This makes for a shorter and simpler game than the original Carcassonne, which children may find too long and complicated or dull.

There is still some strategy required in this board game, though that too is more basic than what is found in any of the Carcassonne versions intended more for adults.
